Kathmandu
Early morning
On our first day of the journey, we drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, Rasuwa where we start our walk from. We leave Kathmandu early in the morning and have our lunch near the town of Nuwakot. We reach Syafrubesi during the evening where have our dinner and rest as we start trekking from the next day.
We start our trek early in the morning after having breakfast. We have a steep upward climb today so we keep our pace slow and steady. We cross the Langtang Khola and reach the next teahouse to have our lunch in the afternoon. We keep walking amidst lush green forests and steep hills to reach Sherpagaun during the evening. We have our dinner and bid goodbye to one of the toughest days of our 8 day journey. The path gets less steep in the days to come.
After having breakfast we start our trek up north along the Langtang Khola. We finally start seeing the majestic peaks of Langtang from this day. We have our lunch at a small popular village town called lama hotel and head towards our destination. We finally reach Ghodatabela late in the afternoon with views of the mountains welcoming us along the way.
Although fairly fit people can reach Kyangjin Gompa this day, it is important we stay in the Langtang village for better acclimatizing as we only ascend around 400m in altitude this day. The view is stunning from Langtang village as we see the whole range of the majestic Ganesh and Langtang-lirung. This view becomes even more precious the moment we realize that it’s the same view of the mountains that we see from Kathmandu valley but way more closely.
During the devastating earthquake of 2015, the whole Langtang village was swept away by a landslide triggered by the earthquake. Around 250 people lost their lives in this incident in this single small village with their bodies still under the rubble.A new Langtang village has started just 5 minutes from this historic site where we shall be spending our night in one of the teahouses. We pray for a good afterlife of all the adventure seekers that lost their lives that day.
By far the most comfortable day of our journey, we trek up to Kyangjin Gompa this day. Kyangjin Gompa is a lively village with stunning 360 degree views of the Himalayas. We reach Kyangjin for lunch, rest for a bit and go for a sightseeing tour. Time permitting we can hike up the Kyangjin-ri which provides more stunning views of the Himalayas from an altitude of 4400 meters ASL.
We start our descent after breakfast through the same path we trekked up to Kyangjin, through Langtang village and the unforgettable landscape of the Landslide affected former village of Langtang surrounded by snowy peaks of Langtang-lirung, Ganesh etc and the friendly tamang faces we met during the way. We lunch at Langtang village and reach Riverside, our destination of the day during the evening. We rest for the day keeping our motivation alive for the epic downhill walk we have to take the next day.
We start the last walk day of our journey early after breakfast and as we descend, we bid goodbye to the magnificent snowcapped views we have been seeing throughout the journey. We lunch at Sherpagaun and follow a steep downhill path for around ~4 hours before we reach Syafrubesi; our destination for the night.
This will be the last day of our journey. We leave after having breakfast and have our lunch at Nuwakot. After ~5 hours drive from Nuwakot we reach Kathmandu and bid farewell to each other , but also each of us taking lots of unforgettable memories back home.
