Nar-Phu valley is a relatively new trekking route which was only recently open to commercial trekkers. You will be surrounded by ancient Tibetan culture, an incredible landscape, wildlife and a very unique lifestyle of one of the remotest parts of the world.

You can customize this trip to include trips to Himlung Himal Base Camp, Tilicho Lake, Lo Manthang or Muktinath.

Tour Details

Nar- Phu valley lies North of the Narshyang Valley, Manang. It was only opened to commercial trekkers since 2003 and is still listed under “Restricted Areas” by the government hence requires special restricted area permit to enter the valley.This valley along with the most of Manang lies to the North of the towering Annapurna massiff.

We follow the Marshyangdi khola from the hills of Besisahar, Lamjung up North in one of the most adventurous highways in the world to reach Koto, Manang from where we start our walk and enter the “restricted area”. 

After we start our trek, we pass through ancient valleys with centuries old customs, traditions and culture still very much intact. Other notable landmarks include centuries old abandoned settlements of the “Khampas” , many Buddhist gumbas, chortens, high passes and the views of the Himalayas which will take your breath away.

Itinerary

Day 1Kathmandu - Koto, Manang(2600m asl)

We leave early morning from Kathmandu to reach Koto, Manang. We follow the Trishulil river from Kathmandu and then the Marshyangdi khola all the way to Koto via Besisahar, Lamjung . We go through one of the most soul chilling highways to reach Koto during the evening where we call it a day and rest in a tea-house lodge

Day 2Koto- Meta(3570m asl)

We go through rich coniferous forests accompanied by the gorgeous colorful Lapche River. We cross a few suspension bridges along the way to reach Meta, our destination for the day during the evening. We lunch in a settlement during the afternoon.

Day 3Meta- Phu village(4050m)

We leave early in the morning as we have a lot of ground to cover this day. We keep heading Northward from Meta. Satek Gumba, an ancient religous monument lies very close to Meta.
Meta is the meeting point between Phu and Nar villages unless you opt to chose to cross a really high pass which will lead you from Phu to Nar without having to retrace your steps and return to Meta.
We reach a really picturesque “grassland” Chakyu during the afternoon where we have our lunch before passing the ancient abandoned “Khampa” settlements in Kyang. We can find a few teahouses along the way. We reach Phu village during the evening after a long and hard walk. We rest at a teahouse in Phu.

Day 4Phu Exploration and Acclamatization

Day 5Phu- Satek Gumba(Nar Phedi, 3440m)

Day 6Satek Gumba - Nar (4120m)

Day 7Nar Village Exploration

There are 4 monasteries and a view that will take your breath away in the village of Nar, Our most picturesque few days of the whole destination is about to start.

Day 8Nar Village - Ngawal(3675m) via Kang-la pass (5320m)

We start really early at around 4-4:30 am in the morning as we need to cross a massive pass in order to reach Ngawal in the Narshyang valley, Manang. We reach Ngawal after a hard day of walk during the evening. We rest for the night there as we exit Manang the next day.

Day 9Ngawal - Pokhara(~900m asl)

Day 10Pokhara- Kathmandu(1300m asl)
