Janakpur- Pokhara- Lumbini-Kathmandu Pilgrimage Tour

We start our tour off with a spiritual trip to Janakpur, the birthplace of Janaki. Then we head towards through the east-west highway in the tarai region to Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha. After that we take our trip to the hilly regions towards Pokhara, the city of Lakes. We end our journey touring Kathmandu after we return.

Day 0: Arrival at Kathmandu, half day tour

Welcome to Nepal! We start this spiritual/ historic tour tomorrow by heading to Janakpur. You rest and gather belongings and do some light shopping in the famous Thamel area. You are accommodated in the famous Annapurna hotel(5-star), King’s way, in front of the legendary Shah Palace of Narayanhiti.

Day1: Kathmandu –Janakpur

We start our day early by taking a ~6 hours drive from the capital city. Kathmandu lies in the hilly region at 1300 meters above sea level while Janakpur in the Gangatic plains at 74m so we drive over various hill passes to reach Janakpur in the late afternoon. We roam around this historic town of King Janak and Sita among the many ponds and temples in the area. We do some shopping during the evening in the busy markets and rest for the night after an eventful day.

Day2: Janakpur City tour

We take a tour of this ancient city rich in the famous Mithila art and architecture. We visit the historic Janaki temple, Ram Janaki vivah mandap, Ram mandir, Ganga sagar, Dhanush sagar and the Ratna sagar temple.

Day3: Janakpur- Chitwan(5-6 hr drive)

We head towards the beautiful city of Chitwan in central Nepal this day. Chitwan is famous for the Tharu tribe who has resided in these parts since centuries. We observe the beautiful river of Narayani and head towards Sauraha, buffer zone of the Chitwan National Park. We spend our evening watching the traditional Tharu dance and get to try some of their stupendous cuisine. We rest for the night in sauraha.

Day4: Chitwan Tour

We start early after breakfast and head towards the Chitwan National Park, famous for doubling the number of Tigers in the last 9 years. We enjoy a Jungle safari deep inside the sanctuary and visit local settlements there. Communicating with the locals can give us a lot of insight about the unique culture of people in these parts. We visit the Elephant breeding center and the crocodile breeding center this day. We rest after an enjoyable day in the jungles.

Day5: Chitwan –Bhairahawa (~4 hours drive)

After our adventures in the forests of Chitwan, we head towards the birth place of Prince Siddhartha Gautam or Lord Gautam Buddha. We reach Lumbini in the afternoon and visit the historic sites of the Ashoka pillar, Mayadevi pond, Bodhi tree, World peace pagoda and the Lumbini museum.

Day6: Bhairahawa- Pokhara (~6 hours drive)

We head towards the Lake city of Pokhara this day through the Siddhartha Highway. We leave after breakfast and reach the ancient hillside town of Palpa for lunch. We reach Pokhara during the evening and take a tour of the Fewa Lake famous for fancy pubs and a tourist lifestyle. We are welcomed by the ever so beautiful Machhapuchre Mountain in Pokhara.

Day7: Pokhara city tour

Pokhara is also famous for being the gateway to the sacred Annapurnas, part of the Himalayas! We take a tour to Sarangkot hilltop for the glorious sunrise that can be observed through some of the highest peaks in the world. If you are interested, we can also manage adventurous activities like Paragliding, Bungee jumping, kayaking etc.

Day8: Pokhara temples sightseeing

We visit the many lakes and temples in Pokhara this day. Taal Bahrahi temple is especially famous for being in the middle of the pristine Fewa Lake, a major tourist attraction. Other famous temples include the Bhimsen Temple and the Shree Bindhyabasini Temple. We can also visit the duo of Begnas and Rupa lakes situated at close proximity of each other.

Day9: Pokhara- Kathmandu:

Finally we return to where we started, the temple city of Kathmandu. We leave early morning as we head towards the capital following the Himalayan Rivers of Marshyangdi and then Trishuli. We reach Kathmandu during the afternoon. We take a tour of one of the holiest sites in the whole of the Hindu civilization in Pashupatinath temple, home of Lord Shiva. We also visit other sites listed in the World heritage sites list in Boudhanath temple and the 3 durbar squares of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur.
