Ghalegaun is a scenic village situated in the lap of the Himalayas in Lamjung district popular amongst domestic as well as foreign travelers for village tourism. It falls under the Gurung heritage trail. All foreign citizens need a permit to trek these hills.Homestays are the general mode of accommodation in these parts.
Ghalegau and Bhujung at parts of a greater Gurung heritage trail that constitutes other famous villages like Sikles,Ngasi Kharka, Tangting, Kohla Sonthar and the hidden glacial lake up north. We can see majestic views of the Annapurnas, Lamjung Himal and Machhapuchre through several parts of the trail.

Besisahar is ~ 170 kilometers from Kathmandu so we need to leave early morning to reach Ghalegaun before nightfall which is a further 13 kilometers from Besisahar. We have lunch either at Dumre or Besisahar and head towards Ghalegaun. Ghalegaun is famous for its traditional Gurung culture and home stays. We will explore the region and stay in a home stay overnight feasting on traditional Gurung cuisine.
We start early morning after breakfast for the scenic ridge walk we take to Bhujung village. There is also a motor able road for people who decide against hiking. Bhujung like Ghalegaun is filled with hospitable people rich in their traditional Gurung lifestyle. Ghalegaun to Bhujung is a short ~2.5 hour hike from Ghalegaun so we reach there for lunch. We lunch at a local home stay there and explore the scenic Gurung village. Communicating with the locals there will give us a lot of insight on the culture and tradition of these hill people.
We start straight after breakfast, our hike to Ghalegaun. We lunch again at Ghalegaun and get ready for our return journey back home. We set off the same way we came from and reach Kathmandu during the evening remembering the good times we’ve had on this short yet pretty trail.
